Course Description:
This course will cover the history of accessibility laws imposed by both the Federal and Florida governments with a discussion of the major differences between the ADA Standards and the FACBC. A look at what a certified state accessibility code is and what that means to the design professional. The attendee will learn about the interaction of COVID-19 regulations and ADA requirements and find out why ADA mistakes are still happening in the field after almost 30 years.

1. What the effect is of accessibility laws and rules created by both the Federal and Florida governments on the welfare of the disabled and non-disabled alike.
2. A discussion of the Department of Justice Certification program of State laws and local Building Codes and how attendees can use this information\ in their practice.
3. How COVID-19 regulations and rules interact with the ADA for the health of the disabled.
4. Why, after almost 30 years of enforcement of the ADA laws, common mistakes are still occurring and how to avoid the hidden traps.
